이 세상에서 가장 불쌍한 남성,

그 대는 어머니와 아내 사이에 끼여 사는 남성이리라.

어머니는 나를 낳아 준 분이요, 더욱이 우리 나라의 어머니는 남다른 광적인 애정과

되돌려 받으려는 孝에 기대를 걸고 헌신을 아끼지 않으며 아들을 키워 오신 분이다.  

아내로 말하면, 오로지 남편 한 사람만 바라보고 희망을 걸고,

낯 설고 습관과 풍속이 다른 집안에 들어온 약자의 처지.

 마음 터놓고 말 한마디 할 사람이라곤 남편밖에 없다.

어머니를 따르는 것은 인륜의 도리요, 아내를 따르는 것은 자연 발생적인 본능.

상반된 이 두 길에서 아들이며 남편인 그대는 어떻게 처신을 해야 할 것인가.
